Images on Bank http://imagesonbank.ca Perfect Framing for Perfect Prints Sun, 12 Jun 2016 15:16:26 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.6 Sometimes Simple is Best http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/04/sometimes-simple-is-best/ http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/04/sometimes-simple-is-best/#respond Sun, 26 Apr 2015 19:28:55 +0000 http://imagesonbank.ca/?p=1113 ]]> A couple of weeks ago, we framed these three beautiful Lord of the Ring-inspired art prints.  The client wanted to keep them simple and elegant, allowing the prints and their subtle, dark colours to speak for themselves.  We decided to show the quarter-inch coloured border on each print, giving us the opportunity to use a dark frame while retaining the contrast between the frames and the images themselves.

This type of framing, when the frame sits directly against the piece with no matting, is called “straight-up,” and it is a great option when keeping things minimal and close to original size is important.  Something to keep in mind with this process is that the glass sits directly against the piece because there is no matting to lift it up.  However, in the case of a piece with texture or a delicate finish, or just to create a small sense of depth, we can use frame spacers to raise up the glass off the piece.  If simplicity is your thing, then straight up’s for you!

Floating Mats are Fun http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/03/floating-mats-are-fun/ http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/03/floating-mats-are-fun/#respond Sat, 07 Mar 2015 00:22:44 +0000 http://imagesonbank.ca/?p=1086 ]]> This is a framing job we did recently that illustrates nicely how adding a floating mat to your piece can create depth and dimension.  In this case, we first set the print onto a backing mat so that the lovely torn edges of the paper were highlighted.  Next we used a single layer of foam core to float the double mat above the piece, adding a small shadow effect.  This is a subtle way to treat any two-dimensional paper piece like a three-dimensional object, setting it apart from the matting and drawing the eye into the frame.

Jersey framing made easy! http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/01/jersey-framing-made-easy/ http://imagesonbank.ca/2015/01/jersey-framing-made-easy/#respond Thu, 22 Jan 2015 03:24:21 +0000 http://imagesonbank.ca/?p=1077 ]]> Recently we’ve had many inquiries about simple and easy ways to get sports jerseys, and other types of clothing, framed and on the wall.  Have no fear, ready made jersey frames are here!  These shadowbox frames are designed specifically to protect and display all manner of clothing items.  The frame itself is a simple and sophisticated matte black wood, and comes with UV protective glass to stop colours and fabrics from degrading over time.  A hanger is included that attaches to the top inside of the frame.  It’s as easy as opening the back of the frame, putting the clothing item on the hanger, closing it up again, and admiring your handiwork!  The interior of the frame is black as well, but there is always the option for us to change the backing colour if another one is preferred.  Depending on the size of the item, you can also add a plaque, some photos, a signature or other small memorabilia to make the frame even more one-of-a-kind, and we’re always happy to help with design and assembly.  With a little creativity and nostalgia, a ready made frame becomes a treasured keepsake for all to see and admire!
